A theory that sustains that sexual orientation, sexual identity and gender expression are the results of social, historical and cultural constructions and, therefore, there are no sexual roles or gender roles that are essentially or biologically inscribed in human nature. In other words, for humans, the only nature is culture, or rather, the diversity and plurality of cultures. The dichotomous categories "feminine" and "masculine" or "heterosexual" and "homosexual" can be understood as repetition of performative acts instead of natural, innate values.(Loose translation from the original: http://bibliotecadigital.univalle.edu.co/bitstream/10893/2675/1/Judith.pdf) |
